Identification
29-32 cm. Upperparts, head and neck streaked with dark brown stripes. White belly, brown barring on the flanks, long, black bill, yellow-olive legs and feet. The sexes are similar.
Distribution
Eastern and central massif of Madagascar.
Taxonomy
A monotypic species.
Habitat
Marshes, swamps, muddy areas, flooded fields
Behaviour
It builds a saucer-shaped nest of dry grass which is concealed in a dense tuft of grass or sedges.
Diet includes insects and worms, seeds and plants.
