  • White below
  • Dark brown-grey upperparts
  • Rusty black forehead and crown
  • pale grey throat and chin
  • Grey to yellow bill
  • Yellow green feet

Taxonomy

This is a monotypic species[1].

Habitat

Shallow lakes and pools

Behaviour

Diet

Diet includes aquatic insects, crustaceans, and small fish. They dive or seize prey from the water's surface.

Breeding

Their nests are floating platforms of aquatic plants, usually anchored well offshore in water lily areas. The clutch consists of3-4 eggs.
