Identification
46 - 53cm. A large crow.
- plumage black with purple gloss on upperparts, steel-blue gloss on head and green gloss on throat
- bill black, very long, gradually tapering from deep base with the culmen gently curving over distal third.

- base of neck feathers pure white
- iris bluish-white
- legs black
Sexes similar. Juveniles have a dark iris and unglossed plumage.
Distribution
Endemic to the Northern Moluccas in Indonesia. Found on the islands of Morotai, Halmahera, Kayoa, Kasiruta, Bacan and Obi.
Seems to be fairly numerous but poorly known.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species[1].
Habitat
Found in primary forest in lowlands and hills. Also in secondary or partially logged forest and also recorded in farmland (coconut plantations). From sea-level up to 380m on Halmahera and up to 1150m on Bacan.
Behaviour
Usually seen in tree canopy, only rarely on the ground. Occurs mostly singly or in pairs. Small groups seen were presumed to be family parties.
Diet
No information about diet. Feeds probably on fruits and berries.
Breeding
No information about breeding.
Movements
A resident species.
