Identification

Extinct. 35.5-40cm. Yellow-brown, striped with dark brown. White facial disc, dark orange eyes.

Habitat

Rocky, low rainfall areas.

Behaviour

Diet included insects, birds, geckos, rats and mice.


Nests were lined with dried grass and were placed on bare ground, in rocky ledges, fissures or under boulders. Two white, roundish eggs were laid. Incubation took 25 days, with the male feeding the female on the nest.
