Identification
Adult: even smaller with more yellow bill and dark tip to lower mandible. Head and neck is darker grey and lacks the white forehead and crown and therefore gives much less capped appearance to head. Immature Chatham very difficult to separate from immature Salvin's Albatross.
Distribution
Breeds only on Pyramid Rock in the Chatham Island Group, west of New Zealand. This species is critically endangered; only 2000-3500 pairs remain. A few birds reach the Humboldt Current off Chile.
Taxonomy
This is a monotypic species.
Was formerly considered conspecific with Shy Albatross.
