Pereira & Baker (2005) shows evidence to treat Spotted Redshank (erythropus), Greater Yellowlegs (melanoleuca), and Common Greenshank (nebularia) as a superspecies. This study demonstrates Tringa leg coloration as a paraphyletic character, exhibiting the full spectrum of Tringa leg coloration within a superspecies.
