Family: Pityriaseidae
Description
This family contains only one genus with one species, the Bristlehead from Borneo.
A bulky passerine with a short tail, a massive bill and a featherless patch on top of its head.
Taxonomy
Pityriaseidae is a monotypic family in the Order Passeriformes.
The taxonomic relationships of this family are still not clear and study results contradict each other. Some studies show it to be most closely related to the Butcherbirds, the Australian Magpie and the Currawongs. Others placed it in a group of shrike-like birds together with the Vangas, Bushshrikes, Helmetshrikes and allies, Wattle-eyes and Ioras.
