Burhinus is a genus in the family Burhinidae.

[edit] Esacus vs. Burhinus

Some authorities (Howard & Moore, 2003) place Great Thick-knee (recurvirostris) and Beach Thick-knee (magnirostris) in the genus Esacus. However, Clements (2007) and Sibley & Monroe (1996) place it with other thick-knees in the genus Burhinus and the Opus awaits further clarification.
