- Calliphlox amethystina
Identification
8.6 cm
Male - straight black bill, forked tail, amethyst throat, white band across the chest.
Female - whitish underparts with green spots on the throat and a short tail.
Distribution
Widespread throughout tropical South America to north-east Argentina and southern Brazil.
Taxonomy
Monotypic[1]
One subspecies, Calliphlox orthura, is recognised by some authors[2]
Habitat
Forest edge and more open habitats, including caatinga etc. Visits garden feeders.
Behaviour
The diet includes nectar.
