Identification

13 cm
Male:

  • Yellow-green back
  • Bright yellow belly
  • Black facemask
  • Yellow crown

Female: lacks the black mask and has an olive crown.

Distribution

Coastal north-eastern Mexico (southern Tamaulipas, eastern San Luis Potosí, northern Veracruz)

Taxonomy

Monotypic.

Habitat

Coastal marshes and lagoons.

Behaviour

Breeding

It builds a cup nest low in vegetation.

Diet

The diet includes insects.

Vocalisation

The song is a loud wichety wichety wichety wich, and the call is a soft jip.
