Let’s talk about eyecups (comfort, dimensions, preferences, etc.)

There are also numerous aftermarket (or "non-market") eyecups available, that one can modify for custom fit . . . https://www.ebay.com/itm/155918788217?itmmeta=01HVSQAFCD10YWVT5MVBMTY5M1&hash=item244d7be679:g:eckAAOSw9gRZ-usF

    Vintage binos???

. I have purchased over a dozen "vintage" binoculars from ebay. I have a small collection of WW1 and WW2 binoculars - Zeiss, Leitz, Hensoldt, Barr&Stroud, Bausch and Lomb, etc. . When shopping ebay: note country of origin (difficult to get a refund from several foreign countries) read...

    Best marine binoculars?

. I have purchased over a dozen binoculars from ebay, "sight unseen" . First, I judge by the seller's "feedback" . . . ie. if the seller's feedback is 100% over a few hundred sales and several years, I judge him trustworthy. If it is a "new" seller, or has a lower feedback, then you roll the...

    Best marine binoculars?

I posted a few replies to the thread question, with a little additional levity. I have attempted to answer all questions from my perspective, and from my experiences. I have stated time and again that I am a very amateur observer. I have a small binocular collection. I have no optical...

    Best marine binoculars?

    AGAIN . . . . . I made it clear (on several posts) that these are MY perceptions and observations, and NOT backed up by Scientific Fact. so . . . . it is acceptable for others to post their "perspectives" and "perceptions" . . . . . . . . well then . . . . . . . .

    Best marine binoculars?

Again, permit me to clarify . . . . . . . . the only opportunity to try other binoculars in a "dark sky" environment, was at a star party. I do not own a boat, and I very seldom go out on the ocean. I listed the binoculars that I used, from my memory, about 10 years ago. Obviously, I should...

    Zeiss WW2 Binocular, help needed

Several models of binoculars built for naval forces had small canisters of silica gel for removal of moisture. There were several companies that manufactured binoculars for naval application - Zeiss, Leitz, Emil Busch, Hensoldt, etc.

    Ocular Lens Size

I am not an Optical Physicist. I have several binoculars with ocular sizes ranging from about 8mm to 23mm. Using a variety of these in widely varying circumstances, the larger the diameter of the ocular lens, more comfortable to "hand-hold", and make for much easier viewing.

    Best marine binoculars?

I have had the opportunity to do a side-by-side comparison (at night) with a few other binoculars: Zeiss 10x50 Night Owl Fujinon 7x50 FMTR Nikon 10x50 EII Swarovski 10x50 EL To clarify: - I do not own, nor do I have available a pair of the Zeiss 8x60 "Fat Boys" My memory tells me that the...

    Best marine binoculars?

Please permit to address your questions: - "probably artistic license" . . . . . . as I have previously stated, the observations that I posted were my personal perspectives - "The depth of field comment is probably not accurate but a feeling" . . . . as I stated, I do not have a degree as...

. . . . "probably means" ?? " . . . . YES, they are accurately and correctly collimated. . . . . "curved field" . . . I am not an Optical Physicist, but the Zeiss 7x50 and the 8x60 "Fat Boys" do have the view that I described. . I posted these pics a simple example of a couple of the...

    Best marine binoculars?

150 meters I merely mentioned that to illustrate that these were completely waterproof. (I was not suggesting that anyone take them to 150 meters depth to find out) Depth of field: I have my 7x50 "Fat Boys" focused to read script at a distance of 150-200 meters, and when viewing stars in the...

    Best marine binoculars?

But, if you are looking for the BEST 8x60 glasses . . . . . These are known as Zeiss "Captain's Glasses", or "8x60 Fat Ones" There were only a few made before the end of WW2, and exclusively issued to the more successful U-boat Captains. The focus adjustment is identical to the 7x50 "Fat Ones"...
