    I am not an Optical Physicist. I have several binoculars with ocular sizes ranging from about 8mm to 23mm. Using a variety of these in widely varying circumstances, the larger the diameter of the ocular lens, more comfortable to "hand-hold", and make for much easier viewing.

    I have two vintage binoculars, that I carry in a case as a "set". One is Zeiss 18 x 50 from 1927, and the other is Zeiss 7 x 50 "gas mask" from 1944. The optics on both are excellent, and each has its specific attributes.

    If you are not concerned about "authentic" but more concerned about "protection", may I suggest looking at the selection of Pelican Cases. These are not "pretty", but are almost indestructible. And the price is much cheaper. .

    I have aquired a pair of Leitz 7x50 binoculars (mfg.1943) thet are in need of a major repair/restoration. Does anyone have personal experience with a shop that can do this type of work, and do it well? I have had one bad experience already.:C
