Montrose basin (uk) wader. Mystery wader

Thanks, that’s the response I was looking for. My memory was very much a ruff, but I just threw it out there because I’m no expert.

Montrose basin (uk) wader. Mystery wader

Ha ha. That would be well dodgy, but just an out-of-interest question is a lot more fun. But if you want to take that approach it’s already inked in, dated and the photo I took of a genuine STS in Hong Kong is already on the way to the rarities committee. I’m sure you’re happy now. 😁😁

Montrose basin (uk) wader. Mystery wader

I took this rubbish photo of a wader on Friday assuming it was a ruff. Given the presence of a sharp-tail today is anyone going to answer my prayers?

    Grouse species - Glenshee Uk

The next day I went back and saw 6-7 ptarmigan just below the summit of the cairnwell through a telescope from the car park. Made me realise the ones I posted earlier were definitely red grouse

    Grouse species - Glenshee Uk

When the birds flew, there was no white on the upper wing. Just the underwing

    Grouse species - Glenshee Uk

Just seeking confirmation that these are red grouse, even though they were on a boulder strewn ridge at 900m

    Flores, Indonesia

Needless to say Sam was excellent and without his help I wouldn’t have seen most of the above. If anyone wants further information, message me and I’ll do my best. Bali was disappointing as a holiday destination and a birding location but Flores was much better. Plenty of primary forest and...

Ok. So I’ve now got time to give a little more information. Remember that this was not a birding bird. It was a family holiday with some trips. We had spent the previous week on Bali, where the highlight was of course three Bali Myna that we saw at the very end of the road at West Bali NP. The...

    Flores, Indonesia

I’ve just come back from a family holiday to Flores and happened to hook up with an excellent quality guide. I’m posting his resumé here in case anyone else is interested. I only had one full day from Labuan Bajo and managed to pick up these lifers, on top of many other Asian species...
