Switzerland 2023 (3 Viewers)

Wow a second Sib Stonechat in short while. I wonder how much is just everyone being "switched on" now and looking for them?

I would guess there must be some birders double checking every Stonechat they see.

While unsuccessfully looking for this visitor from the far east ten days ago, I briefly chatted with Wieland Heim from the Swiss Ornithological Institute (Wieland Heim). He seemed a bit skeptical about the distinction from a 'normal' Stonechat.

Meanwhile, in Switzerland cold weather birds arriving:
  • Common Diver in Geneva area
  • White fronted Geese in Vaud
  • Pink footed Geese and Bewick Swans in TG
  • Redwings in many locations
I feel cold already!

Son got a room with a great view near down-town Zurich. This is sunrise yesterday.

It is a bit a pity that is is the USZ, and that he needed a sepsis as entry ticket. No birding for me for a bit, it seems.

I finally had excellent views of the Spotted Sandpiper this morning, the bird is not shy and put on quite a performance. A single Turnstone remaining from the original group of three was present this morning at Pâquis and on the opposite side of the lake we managed to get some rather poor views of one of the two Common Loons that are present. An immature Lesser Black-backed Gull completed the more notable sightings.
