Revalations and the ZR binocular (1 Viewer)

oh, really?
And how do we know that?

By searching this forum, and several other outdoor forums in which professionals and amateurs alike have done personal, side by side viewing and comparing. I've done it myself with my own trinovid, a SLC, and an EL. The view is better in my 10x Zen ED2 than my own 10x trinovid, my neighbors 10x SLC, and I cannot tell much of any difference in it and my neighbor's 10x EL. That's how I know, personal use. How do you know they're not? (No I don't work for, nor paid by ZR)

Right on, jgraider. I have said this before but the continued negative noise over these binoculars prompts me to say it again: I continue to be amazed at the view through my Zen binoculars, especially the 7 x 36 ED2, find all the models I own an absolute pleasure to use, and no, I do work for, or receive any benefit from, the Zen folks.

Chartwell, since you "do" work for Zen Ray, some here who have owned
the 7x36, need to neutralize the praise that keeps coming for these.
I saw the "halo", flare, bottom gray crescent with mine, from the first
time I looked through them. Others that looked through mine saw the same.

For you binocular lovers, angels have halos, my Zen Ray had "halos", but
Alphas "do not" have halos.;)

Ouch, that's a rather close to slander.

Oh, alphas do show "halos" ... especially in trying conditions and with smaller apertures (e.g. Zeiss 8x32FL, Zeiss Victory 8x40, Nikon SE 8x32 and 10x32). Take a look at a comment I posted way back on the 7x36 thread making exactly this measurement.

oh, really?
And which reason does exist in the wide, endless universe for me to blindly believe claims from anonymous sources?

Well, I would bet they aren't as "anonymous" as a "female" from "europe" with 14 posts on Bird forum (and who joined October 2009!) who has enough knowledge about Playboy magazine and the workings of binoculars to post a link showing an obscure cartoon from an old issue to illustrate the removal of gas from binoculars!

So after reading all these post I still want a nice pair of Bins. Will I love the ED2?

I have a pair of 7x36ED2 , for me they work. I see no halo or glare. They give me a view better than any other Bino I have owned in a 7x-8x mag. You will love the wide FOV . If you can get a pair direct from Zen Ray you have 30 days to return them. I have returned 2 other different pair to Zen Ray before deciding on these & Zen Rays customer service was A1.... Before anyone starts looking into my post's.... I dont work for Zen Ray or any other Binocular company....Gwen

I guess I have not read the long Zen-Ray threads, but what is meant by "halo"?
I am not familiar with that term (at least re optics/binoculars).

For most folks, under certain lighting conditions, a thin "veil" of "fuzziness" shows up in the bottom half of the field of view. There has been considerable discussion of it over in the Zen ED 7x36 evalutation thread. EdZ did a nice job of putting up a diagram on it.

Jay, I have the 8x43 ED's and really enjoy them. If there is an issue with halos, it is minimal at its worst. I have lent them to quite a few birders, some who own alphas & some not, and they were all impressed.

Caesar, thanks for bring up those 2 posts. I have mulling it over, wondering if I would get flak for it.

In my world dnr means do not resuscitate - I think that the proverbial plug needs to be pulled on the comments of both clr & dnr.

For what it is worth, I WISH I worked for a bins company - then I might have a shot at being a binaholic!!!! Hey Tero, I think Gwen is your true female binaholic BTW!!

Hi Laura, If you are talking about gcole on here, Gwen is male at least according to his info. :)
Regards,Steve

My money's still on drn = ThoLa (and it is drn not dnr). Same curt and snide style, same dismissiveness, same slightly Germanic use of English.

CLR writes fluent English, and his posts, however much you disagree, are at least fully developed.

Wow, I knew it was too early for me to be typing! Sorry John & thanks Kammerdiner for catching my misreading - drn it is. :egghead: (I can actually read quite well!)

Thanks Steve, I have to say that have never looked Gwen's profile. My apologies, Gwen.:egghead:

Kammerdiner, I would agree with your assessment of clr's posts.

Perhaps I should stop typing & go birding!

Apologies for the typo - put correctly, no I do not work for, nor receive any benefits from, the Zen Ray folks. As to halos, I don't see them on my Zen 7 x 36s but I recognize that, for whatever reason, others do. I originally purchased and still own and love the Nikon 10 x 42 SE and based on that experience, bought the 8 x 32 SE. It was a painful mistake with views plagued by ever present blackouts, prompting their reluctant sale. I suspect there are other alphas that are less than perfect for many.

Yes, for sure. I wonder why he made another account considering how rude he is with his primary, no need to disguise it ;)

Than you've got 2 or 3 choices:

1. Spend about $6-$10K and buy your own samples to compare
2. Believe what you read/research
3. Don't believe any of it by anybody
4. Sit back and criticize bases on answers you get here but don't want to hear.

Get after it. Spend the money and let us know what you think.
