Short-tailed Albatoss: resting

Short-tailed Albatoss: resting (Phoebastria albatrus)

The current Opus article on this bird shows only an immature bird, and there appear to be no other photos in the gallery. According to Mark Brazil, it takes twelve-plus years for this vulnerable (previously near-extinct) Albatross to reach adult plumage. On a ferry voyage last week off the coast of north-east Honshu, Japan (Iwate or Aomori Prefectures), we saw all three albatrosses of the region (Laysan, Black-footed, and Short-tailed) quite well.

Given this lack of photos of the adult Short-tailed, I want to contribute these three showing the resting bird, the underwing, and the bird in flight from above - the first two are jpg photos (no Raw) while the flight shot is a screen-grab from a 4K video, all taken with the Canon R5 mirrorless camera, and the RF 100-500 lens (I have a button set up to switch to the bird video mode instantly).
