Any explanation?

Looks like 4 tracks into a mixer, outputting two tracks recorded on the F3. Is the one unit just a battery for the F3 - if so how is the mixer powered?

What advantage do you get from the array? As the final recording is stereo, is the effect better than if you recorded with the outer two mics only (e.g. A/B Stereo)? I can see that if the central mic was dual mono and directional, you could perhaps get a central subject and a stereo background.
