Wren identification, Pennsylvania, USA (1 Viewer)

jmepler

It's just a flesh wound.
United States
This bird was found on an island in the Susquehanna River in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania on September 30.

It was very secretive, and flushed from a small, dense patch of smartweed and purple loosestrife when we were less than five feet from it.

The habitat there is dry sandy soil, with scattered vegetation, mostly waist high smartweed. The bird did favor the vegetation at the water's edge, although that is where it was most dense.

Below is a 100% crop, the original image can be seen here.

The initial identification, by two very experienced birders, was that of Sedge Wren. They had some fairly long, but obstructed, looks at the bird, as it skulked around in the smartweed.

Later, when we refound the bird we were all thinking Sedge Wren, but after seeing the pictures of the bird, it appeared to be a very drab Marsh Wren.

There is not a consensus among all the people that have viewed the pictures. Although Marsh Wren has a bit of a lead over Sedge Wren.

Thanks for the opinions
