I will hopefully be staying in Braithwaite for a few days over the festive period and am wondering where the best places to see birds locally are.

Any recommendations for wintering birds? I guess the Leighton Moss RSPB reserve is one target, though it is 60 miles away!

It's not an area I have ever really explored for birding, as it's a fair distance from me in the Midlands. So any helpful suggestions will be very much appreciated!

Cheers.

The Solway coast is always a good area for wintering birds. Its a big place though, and some prior research will pay dividends.

Leighton Moss can produce well at that time of year too, and as you will presumably be driving past on the M6, maybe you should consider going there en route rather than making a special journey for it.
