Western Tanager (1 Viewer)

I have only seen the scarlet tanager on the east coast, but something told me the yellow and black bird with yellow epaulets perched on my fence was a tanager. By the time I had set up my tripod, the bird had flown. A few minutes with a search engine confirmed this sighting of a western tanager. He was well to the east of the usual migration path to Canada. Spectacular coloring on this bird and I am sure I would have remembered a previous sighting.
