Is this the Round Lake in New York state? ("USA" is a very big place.) That helps eliminate Ridgway's rail, for example.

I think Virginia is right: vivid beak color, strong flank bars.

100% Virginias Rail, all other regularly occurring United States Rallus species lack that grey-blue cheek patch, habitat is also wrong for all other us rail species.
