Thanks! Ingrained Clay looks good. Not sure about the pug - think its wings are too straight on the front edge for that?
 
Thanks both! Will go with double-striped then. Wish there was a field guide concentrating on tricky moths equivalent to the old Macmillan Guide to Bird ID!

Bear in mind that it does not appear to cover Campanuala and Channel Islands Pugs at least which I have seen in Hampshire and I was surprised not to see Larch Pug listed amongst the possible melanics.

Looks a fun read though.
