I like how you slept in by 2 hours and still got out the door for 7:20........ I also like how you describe it as 'just about worth the effort.' I'd call it a damned fine morning's birding!

Broadly similar story today. Alarm set for 0430 but nearer 0700 before I got out of bed (wanted to be out by 0530 to look for Grasshopper Warblers). Out for 0745 but Grasshopper Warbler search will have to wait (probably till tomorrow - though, if I'm getting up at 0430, I should really be heading off to my bed about now).
