RFI – Kyoto mid April 2016 (1 Viewer)

Dear all,

I am planning to visit Kyoto in mid-April 2016 primarily to try to see the Cherry blossom in Kyoto. I would appreciate advice regarding birding in Kyoto and its surroundings and also around Mount Fuji at this time.

We could either go for a shorter 4 night stay in Kyoto, or extend the visit to add a couple of nights near Mount Fuji. Is it too early to bird the Mount Fuji area in mid-April, and what might be seen at that time of year?

I will be with my wife who enjoys natural history and scenery generally but isn’t a birder. I would consider hiring a guide for the trip to Mount Fuji, with the aim of doing some birding, wildlife, walking and general sightseeing – can anyone recommend a guide and or relatively birdy place to stay in the Fuji area?

Whilst in Kyoto is there anywhere I should aim for if I can spend half a day birding? We will be coming from Hong Kong where I will have spent a day at Mai Po, so somewhere other than coastal mudflats/shorebirds would be good.

All the best, Paul
