Hi,
I will be in Nairobi for work soon, and have a spare weekend - I was wondering if anyone knew of any local bird guides to recommend in Nairobi who would be good for one day/two day trips?
Thanks very much,
Liam

My trip was a very long time ago, but "Charles" picked us up at the airport where he works usually as a taxi driver. He took us around Amboseli, which was fantastic.

Sorry I can't give any more info, but if u ask the other taxis perhaps they might know him. Of course, they may be aspects of the end of Life of Brian if you do :)

I agree with Steve . I go birding a lot with young Joseph and he is very good .

You might also visit Nature Kenya at the Museum , who have a monthly sunday birdtrip somewhere close to Nairobi . If you are around longer then a weekend , there is a regular wednesday birdwalk led by the indomitable Fleur Ngweno [for 40 years ] .

Hi,
Just a quick update and for anyone's interest.
I went to Nairobi National Park today with Ben Mugambi (thanks again for everyone's advice) - Ben was fabulous - knows his stuff more than inside out, and I second comments above recommending him without hesitation.
Personal highlights of today were Pangani longclaw, Madagascar Squacco heron, and topping it all off 2 white-backed night herons (been after that one for a long time...) - as well as black rhino and lion.
I would also like to push Nairobi Np as an amazing destination on the doorstep of a city - always worth visiting and a great one day trip for those who are on restricted time - I love it every time!
Thanks again everybody,
Liam

We have a regular team that visits the park weekly . It is as you say great . 100 species is the norm and there is always something different . Will be posting a summary of the last 4 visits shortly . By the way where did you find the White-backed Night Heron ?

Been looking for that for ages

Four of us were in the park all day and we contacted Ben to see where he found the Heron . After a lot of searching at Hippo Pools we found it . A great lifer for me . We also had a Common Button Quail elsewhere , which is diffcult to find . I will post a more detailed report in birds and birding on our last 4 monday visits there .

Hi Mike,
apologies for delay - been travelling back to Uk over past couple of days. Glad you found the heron. I have been to a few places where it was possible but have always failed, so it was great to finally clap eyes on it - a cracking bird.
Looking forward to going back to Kenya soon,
Liam
