Saw this bird yesterday at Whitburn in Co.Durham at first glance it looked like an Ad Winter Med Gull and this is what I initially thought it was. Then strarted to realise that something wasn't quite right about it.

Description:

Med Gull features: All white primaries (although it did appear to only have 1 due to moult). Paler across the back and also larger than surrounding Black-heads. Bright red beak with small black mark around Gonys angle.

Black-headed Gull features: Smaller beak than expected for Med. Dull red legs. Small ear spot and dark across top of head. Lack of white 'eyelids'.

Personally I think that it is a runty ad winter plumage Med Gull but am welcome to hear others opinions.
