New York - October (2 Viewers)

Zac Hinchcliffe

Time spent wishing is time wasted!
Hi Everyone.
Next October (08) I may be going to New York on a family Holiday, I shall try to get as much birding done as possible, but most of this will have to be confined to Central park - Any advice?

Zac,
Go to the "Your Local Patch" forum. Scroll down to Pinewoods, "A Rank Beginner in New York, New York" patch. Go to the last page, see Jos Stratford's very recent thread #482 and click where it says "click here" at the end of his post. It's an excellent report on his recent birding trip to Central Park. In fact the reports in the patch are mostly about Central Park birding.

Have a nice vacation!

Shucks, thanks very much ;)

It is also worth looking at this website by Phil Jeffrey which gives a season by season view of the park.

You can review information of species seen in the metro area's largest birding places here: http://www.nycbirdreport.com/

And for up-to-date rarities that may not be listed there, keep an eye on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ebirdsnyc/messages
You do not need to be a member of the group to view the messages, and you can search the archives for daylist reports from Central Park and elsewhere in October to see what's around. There are a few people who don't just report the highlights, they report everything, to your benefit.
