When travelling to Norfolk through Cambridge, I saw a black grey squirrel. We had stopped to let cars pass and I went to check a nearby lake and while walking and black squirrel ran across the road.

I saw one a few years back in Hayes, west London. There's a small cluster of these somewhere in Herts- I think near Hitchin?

They can be seen in a swathe of suitable habitat from the old Lady A sites around Woburn through Hitchin (actually Letchworth town centre parks are a hotspot) to Cambridge. Anecdotally they outcompete normal Greys for mating so tend to spread rather than disappear.

In North America I have heard that around Washington DC they are found North of the Potomac but not South.

Sadly I also saw a fully black cat about a second later… so my one may of not been so lucky.
