Mosquitoes and rain have curtailed our bird watching somewhat.
We may have seen a Lewis’s Woodpecker this morning, which we think would be a pretty rare sighting for Manitoba.
We didn’t have a camera handy and hope it returns so we get a chance to photograph it.
We are now going through about 2 pounds of mixed seed, 1 pound of black oil seed and about a pound of suet each day. We only fill the mixed seed once a day as the birds empty it in about 4 hours, we then let them eat what they have spilled on the ground. We make our own suet now as it costs about $18 a month; where as the commercial suet was running $60-$100 a month. The birds seem to love it and polish off a pound in about 8 hours.
We had a mamma Downy Woodpecker and two fledglings visiting our feeders last week.
Most of the other birds have been bringing fledglings to the feeders for a few weeks now.
Sightings:
Pine Siskin
Song Sparrow
Robin
