Hi,

Can anyone recommend a local guide and any good birding localions around Brasilia?

Sadly it is not me going but a birding friend, going for work who should have some free time to explore the local area.

Your friend may want to check out the Chapada dos Veadeiros, 250 km north of Brasilia, for a day or two. A scenically impressive area with plenty of cerrado specialties and a handful of Brazilian Mergansers. A good contact for the area is Ana Rosa of Ecorotas ([email protected]) - I don't know for certain if she speaks English, but e-mails shouldn't pose any problems.

Much closer is the Brasilia National Park, just a few minutes from the city centre. Some nice species occur here including Helmeted Manakin, but it is probably best avoided on the weekend due to crowds. I don't think the park opens until 8 AM.

hope this helps a little.

Brad
