The Eponym Dictionary of Birds claims
The Key to Scientific Names
If he really died 1937 is unknown to me. As well when he was born. But the claim of The Eponym Dictionary of Birds seems correct. As well if Jim or James may in question? Or is there another species with santiago which realtes to Santiago de Ures?
Here we can find a photo with him.
Named for Jim (i.e. "Don Santiago") McCarty, the late owner of Rancho Guirocoba, and friend of every naturalist who has worked in southeastern Sonora in recent years. It is safe to say that without the assistance of Mr. McCarty much of the territory of sotheastern Sonora, northeastern Sinaloa, and southwestern Chihuahua would be zoologically unexplored territory to-day.

McCarty was an iconic figure: a wonderful biographical portrait of him was published in 1950 in Robert T. Moore's "Descent into the Barranca del Cobre" (Natural History vol. 49 issue 10, pp. 440-445, 473-74; Dec. 1950)
