When I saw this bird this morning I assumed Iceland Gull but then noticed the darker (though still extremely pale) centres to the primaries. Is it just a darker than usual Iceland or is Kumlein's a possibility?DSC04331.JPGDSC04380.JPG

surely not a 1st winter with those pale eyes. as to kumlien's or not - you'd need better pics of the outer primaries and an open tail. structure with the somewhat square head and also the rel. large amount of black to bill in a 2nd cycle might suggest a possible kumlieni - but safe identification needs the mentioned feather parts to be assessed carefully.

an individual with rel. strong pattern and still rel. fresh feathers making that pattern visible. the only concern is the weirdly large bill and the angular head but it's not a Kumlien's Gull. Iris too pale, no contrast in outer primaries, wavy patternd tail and bicoloured bill.
