How's Your 2023 List Going? (4 Viewers)

For me!
1. American kestrel
2. Redwing black bird
3. House finch
4. Mallard
5. Canada Goose
6. Goldeneyes
7. Common Merganser
8. Red Tailed Hawk
9. Eurasian Collared Dove

The Goldcrest was last week and the rest were from this afternoon in Debrecen's Botanical Gardens. Nuthatch is embarrassingly late... I don't know what happened there. If I'd seen Syrian Woodpecker I would have managed 6/6 for the local species.

88. Goldcrest

90. Eurasian Nuthatch
91. European Green Woodpecker
92. Lesser Spotted Woodpecker
93. Hawfinch

117. Yellow-crowned Night-Heron
118. White-winged Dove

96. Eurasian Treecreeper
97. Eurasian Bullfinch

Today in Debrecen's forest. Both are uncommon winter visitors here.

Today I went to the eastern panhandle of West Virginia to chase a potential state lifer, which at this point are becoming fewer and farther between. After almost two hours, I finally did get a brief glimpse.

62. Townsend's Solitaire

The bird was first found a week ago, and it fortunately stuck around long enough for me to chase it today, which was the first day I was able to get away. This is the first record of the species for the state.

101. Common Pochard
102. Smew
103. Black-throated Loon
104. Velvet Scoter
105. Red-breasted Merganser

Seems strange seeing "coastal" birds like mergansers, divers and scoters in landlocked Hungary, but small numbers of these species overwinter in the country.

This will likely be my last outing in Hungary as I'm leaving the country in a couple of days. Might try and venture out between packing sessions to see if I can tick off Syrian Woodpecker before I leave...
