Could I have seen Snow Buntings? (1 Viewer)

Finally reached 300!
England
Walking this afternoon along the lower prom in Tynemouth. No bins so relying on MK1 eyeballs. A group of finch like birds spotted. Colouring best described as similar to turnstones, ie motley but brightish russet shades. All had noticable white outer tail feathers a la chaffinch. One of the group was striking ly all over white on undersides when in flight whereas rest were more mottled in colouring.

Scanning through Collins the Snow Bunting looks most likely, but is there a much more obvious ID?

They do sound like Snow Bunts to me, especially the strikingly white individual!
I'd wait for one of the more learned members to reply before you tick 'em off though ;)

Hi John i had a group of 6 there on Saturday the 7th and 3 on Sunday 8th of Febuary so you are probably ok on your id mine were behind the derelict white building feeding in the waste grassy area.
