I'll be staying at the Hacienda Tres Rios Resort, Riviera Maya the first week of April 2011. Has anyone birded their Tres Ríos Nature Park? Any advice on birding/archaeology tours of Chichen Itza or birding one of the Biosphere reserves, ie. Sian Ka'an?

Hi Mad Owl. I will be in that area at the same time, at the Bahia Principe in Akumal.
I intend to get to Coba for a day, and hopefully to the Sian Ka'an at Muyil. There are birding tours available for these spots. Not sure where your hotel is , but there is a botanical garden north pf Playa which is highly rated. You may find Chichen Itza is a fair drive, and not too much different. My hotel has a golf course which apparently has good birding. Try the tour companies in the area who all seem to offer special birding tours. Google is your friend.
