Ettore Conte Arrigoni degli Oddi (1867–1942) was an Italian ornithologist. He wrote Ornitologia Italiana (1929).

The BOW Key
Carlo Ettore Conte Arrigóni degli Oddi (1867-1942) Italian ornithologist, politician (subsp. Accipiter gentilis, subsp. Buteo buteo, syn. Passer hispaniolensis, syn. Poecile montanus).

Björn recently reported that Mearns & Mearns 2022 have him as:
Mearns & Mearns: [Vol. 2: 404–405]
Ettore [Count] Arrigoni degli Oddi (1882–1964), ...
"Italian ornithologist ...

I would say Mearns & Mearns are wrong as Ettore Arrigoni degli Oddi: cenni biografici or Edgardo Moltoni: Necrologio Ettore Arrigoni degli Oddi. In: Natura: rivista mensile di scienze naturali. Vol33, 1942, ISSN 0369-6243, p. 61–64. are counting against the life dates they used.

Just for the sake of clarity ... and to put things straight!

...

True indeed, and yes, in the quote above "Mearns & Mearns are wrong" ... but not in the Book itself!

Contrary to the above, Mearns & Mearns (2022*), actually says:
ARRIGONI DEGLI ODDI, Ettore
b. [born] 13 October 1867: Villa di Ca’Oddo [sic, **], Monselice, Padua, Veneto, Kingdom of Italy
d. [died] 16 February 1942: Bologna, Emilio-Romagna, Italy

Italian ornithologist born into a noble Paduan family. Count Ettore graduated ... and onwards.

Mea culpa! [***]

The Mearns Couple also have the following four references for [Conte/Count] Ettore Arrigoni degli Oddi:
• Collezione Arrigoni degli Oddi Conservazione, Educazione, Inclusione - Museo Civico di Zoologia (accessed 19 February 2019). [Except the link itself, of course ;)]

Also note that in some other texts he's mentioned as either [my blue and bold]: "...dell ornitologo" [Conte (Count)] "Carlo Ettore Arrigoni degli Oddi (1868–1942)", alt. (even longer) "Conte Carlo Giulio Ettore Arrigoni degli Oddi" (with the same years, see, for example, here) ... ?

Could this maybe be a mix-up of years, alt. names, possibly of a Brother? Or not? Who knows ...?

Good luck finding the truth, and his very (true) full name!

Björn

**His Father was Oddo Arrigoni degli Oddi (1832–1907), at least according to here.

***Those years, "(1882–1964)", actually belonged to Sir Geoffrey Archer [i.e. Geoffrey Francis Archer (1882–1964) ], the British Colonial administrator and ornithologist, commemorated in the (Eurasian) Spoonbill ssp. Platalea leucorodia archeri Neumann, 1928, and the (Alpine) Swift ssp. Tachymarptis melba archeri (Hartert, 1928), listed on the preceding page (p.403). A Copy/Paste problem I assume, while fumbling about on the computer. 😬

Sorry if I caused any doubts, or confusion.
