Saw this whimsical Whimbrel - whose manner of plunging the long curved bill into the sand is reminiscent of the movement of an old-fashioned oil derrick! - on the beach at the Oregon Coast, at Cape Blanco - which, for those who don't know, is the westernmost point not only of the State of Oregon, but also of the contiguous United States.
