  1. House sparrow

    House sparrow

The house sparrow is an introduced species in Australia. Interestingly, I've learned that these birds are less common in Sydney than they used to be, decades ago. Anyway, here is a nice picture of a male sparrow. There were a few others nearby (male, female and juvenile).

Hello, new to birdwatching in the garden

I installed a bird feeder in the garden. Surprisingly, I took good pictures with an almost 20-year-old camera, the Panasonic FZ50. A Great Tit and a Sparrow (am I correct?) are my pictures so far. They are cute little creatures, ravenous and very shy. I read they should be nesting now, if I am...
  3. Plectrophane

    Sparrow, Eastern Townships, Quebec.

Doesn't look like any of the usual species at this time of year in our area. Note the pink legs and the very bold tan stripe across the eye.

  5. Swamp Sparrow

    Swamp Sparrow

Swamp Sparrows perch and forage in vegetation near the ground or water surface, where their rather long legs—longer than those of Song or Lincoln’s Sparrows—enable them to forage well. They typically forage near the water’s edge or in brushy patches within the habitat.

Mountain View, California USA - longshot sparrow

Seen in late October, only a couple of yards from the Bay. I tried Birdnet twice; each time it could not give a certain ID, but suggested Brewer's Sparrow. The sound quality was so bad (vehicles, equipment, wind, waves, people, at al) that I am surprised that the app could make any suggestions...

    Alabama, USA palm warbler?

Saw this bird foraging on the ground. It is tiny, smaller than the eastern bluebird I saw in this same location. It is the beginning of April. My first sighting of this bird I thought it was a sparrow but on my second sighting I was able to get this closer picture and I do see a small bit of...

    Italian sparrow (Passer italiae)

Italian sparrow (Passer italiae). Once very common and now it is rare to meet them. The cause of the decline is not entirely clear, but perhaps the audio of this video explains why. Sparrows and chicken coops lived in symbiosis and now there are hardly any more chicken coops ...

    Is this a Lincoln's Sparrow?!?!

This seems like a rarer sparrow than the usual fare. Is it indeed a Lincoln's? Found at the Bolsa Chica Wetlands in Orange County, CA. Thanks!

    Is this a sparrow?

I was in a truck so I couldn’t get a good picture without spooking them. They have the typical sparrow coloration, but they looked bigger. They were between a robin and a song sparrow in size. The male (top) seemed to be feeding the female (bottom) as she rested on the ground.
