grackle

  1. K

    Hello,

I'm Katie, live in Bristol. I saw an unusual bird in my garden yesterday which I think may have been a female Grackle, does anyone know if there have been any sighting in Bristol before. I know there have been some in Wales. I do have a couple of awful photo (only had my phone to hand)
  2. Common grackle

    Common grackle

This common grackle kept trying to get away from me and my camera in the morning wet grass, as it was looking for a place to eat its insect breakfast or take the insects to feed its brood.

Grackle with stubby parrot like beak?

I’m stumped trying to identify a ‘grackle’ in Manzanillo with a stubby parrot like beak. Is this a variation or a different species?

    Grackles with the First Snowfall_Portrait.jpg

Throughout the east and midwest, this big blackbird is a very familiar species on suburban lawns, striding about with deliberate steps as it searches for insects. Common Grackles often nest in small colonies, and several males may perch in adjacent treetops to sing their creaking, grating songs...

    Boat-tailed grackle - Shiny males

The large male is black with lots of iridescence, with that giant tail standing out, while the females are quite a bit smaller and all brown. these two males seemed to be competing with each other for the attentions of the females - lots of head-raising and calling until one flew off

Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus prosopidicola) They are even impressive without their great tail, this ones tail has only grown back about half way so far from its August-September molt.
  8. Great-tailed Grackle (male)

    Great-tailed Grackle (male)

Great-tailed Grackle (Quiscalus mexicanus prosopidicola) All of our grackles are currently in molt. They have lost all of their tail feathers and are just beginning to grow them back while some still have two or three tail feathers remaining. This bob-tailed grackle is a little further along...

    Great-tailed Grackle

This male grackle was perched in a tree with another male. It gave out a short, raspy, ascending call, then threw its head back and spread its tail and wing feathers. It this a mating display?
