  1. Northern Cardinal

    Northern Cardinal

I set up some natural perches by my feeders, hoping to get the birds to land on them, and this female cardinal finally did!
  2. Chickadee

    Chickadee

I think the chickadees around here are carolinas, but I'm not sure. They certainly look different than the black-capped ones I see in Michigan. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of those later this summer!
  3. Cardinal

    Cardinal

This is to go with the female I posted earlier. I like the soft greeness of the leaves.
  4. Grey Squirrel

    Grey Squirrel

Hide, 400mm f5.6L, not much more to say!
  5. Cardinal 2

    Cardinal 2

    See my other cardinal photo.
  6. Cardinal

    Cardinal

This was taken from my hide, with a tripod. Only my second day with the 400mm f5.6l, but already I'm getting some pictures that I love!
  7. House Finch

    House Finch

Another with my new 400mm f5.6L. So far, (one afternoon) I'm really enjoying it!
  8. Downy Woodpecker

    Downy Woodpecker

Taken with my new 400mm f5.6L, an old tripod, and my homemade hide. The interesting thing was that my head was down by my thigh to be able to look through the viewfinder, since the camera was pointed almost straight up.
  9. White-Breasted Nuthatch

    White-Breasted Nuthatch

I was glad to finally get a nice picture of one of these. Previously, all my shots had been very distant. From Shaw Nature Reserve.
  10. Chipping Sparrow

    Chipping Sparrow

Another with the 400mm f5.6 from Shaw Nature Reserve.
  11. House Wren 2

    House Wren 2

There were many nest boxes at Shaw Nature reserve, and a couple were being used by these little guys. Last year, I had one that would sing from the wires in my backyard, but he hasn't showed up yet.
  12. House Wren

    House Wren

Another with my rented 400mm f5.6, also from Shaw Nature Reserve. If you happen to be in the St. Louis area, I can't think of a better place to go birding.
  13. Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

    Ruby-Throated Hummingbird

Taken at Shaw Nature Reserve, with a Canon 400mm f5.6 I really enjoyed using it, but it's gone back to lensrentals (I highly recommend them). Now I look forward to getting my own-hopefully before summer.
  14. Buff-banded Rail, Gallirallus philippensis.

    Buff-banded Rail, Gallirallus philippensis.

After more than a year wait, finally got lucky with the Buff Banded Rail. More photos here http://chenghiang.wordpress.com/2010/05/01/buff-banded-rail/
  15. One Red Kite that did perform at Gigrin Farm

One Red Kite that did perform at Gigrin Farm

The only decent photo (of around 40) I managed to get at Gigrin Farm after driving a total of 3 hours' driving to get to Rhyader from Bristol. We arrived at 2:30 PM for the 3 PM feeding, only to be told that due to the overcast skies the birds would appear anything between 3:15 and 5:00 PM -...
  16. Robin sat on a Branch

    Robin sat on a Branch

Taken in Richmond Park using a Canon 1DMKIII + 300 F2.8 IS with x2 TC

    Buzzard

I spent my summer holiday trying to get a decent photo of this guy. Here is the best one.
  21. Heron in flight

    Heron in flight

This one flew quite close to the hide and despite the slow speed of my 5D, I am pleased with this capture.
