What say you to this serial number, Gentlemen?

I have an option on one from the same batch in (presumably unopened) OEM packaging. These are bona fide items from the estate of an Austrian senior officer. What I find most intriguing is the serial number, especially since I have not been able to work it out at all from the plentyful...

Which is a better deal for $600

Greetings from WA State, USA. I have a chance to buy one or the other paces of hardware for bird watching. Both feel like very decent deals. I'm not sure which might be most benfitical for viewing birds, any pros, cons or trade offs. I've been hoping to view birds at a distance. I've been...

Help wanted with shortening my shortlist of 8x32 binoculars for < 300 ā‚¬ (Vanguard, Nikon, Opticron, Bresser)

Dear fellow birders, I am having a hard time deciding which pair of binoculars to get next. My background: I enjoy occasional, but frequent birdwatching. I seldom go out exclusively for birdwatching (I may do so once a month or so) but whenever I go out for whatever reason (e.g. with the dog...

Used Monarch ATB or Prostaff 3s?

Hi there! I would like to upgrade my current binoculars (porro). My main goal is better glass, lighter weight and roof prism design. I have had my eye out for a month now on the Nikon Prostaff 3s 8x42 for 1,700sek/~200usd, as it is excellent quality for the money, but I have now seen a used...

    Great service experience

I had some problems with my Diamondback HD binoculars and sent them in for warranty service. Vortex sent me back a new pair, very quick turn around. Everything seems to work well and there's less CA than my originals. I understand why Vortex gets high praise for their warranty service!

I'm trying to take apart the centre mechanism so I have two halves. I'm somewhat almost there but it seems like there is a middle shaft that needs to come out however I can't figure out how that's done. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it. If anyone would like photos, please let me...

    Wearing binoculars while biking

I am curious about binocular harnesses or some way to carry binos while biking. I don't tour long distances, but I keep my camera in a bag on the bike. I'd like to somehow harness my binos against my body so I can stop and look easily and they won't be swinging around. I know there must be...

Here we are at the usual appointment on the Binomania YouTube channel- This time I tried a 42 mm roof prism binoculars made in China which cost 236 Euros including VAT in the 8x version and 242 Euros in the 10x version. Prices that make it rightfully among the binoculars that I define "entry...

Extreme Nearsightedness--Focusing at infinity without eyeglasses

I am currently shopping to upgrade my binoculars. My #1 hotbutton is the ability of the binoculars to focus at infinity without eyeglasses. I have a -10.5 correction in both eyes, no astigmatism. I would love the ability to purchase APO eyeglass lenses utilizing UD glass at the same quality...

What's the difference between these three binoculars?

Hello, I'm new to this forum and quite new to birdwatching as an official hobby. I'm looking to buy my first set of binoculars and think I have narrowed it down to the following three Opticron options. Aside from their price, they all look very similar and so I was wondering if anyone can tell...

    Testing longitudinal (axial) chromatic aberration

Hello friends, I do lateral chromatic aberration (CA) testing when comparing binoculars on the edges of nearly black roofs, satellite antennas of the same color, power lines and poles against bright but gray skies. How or with which observation objects can I check longitudinal (axial) CA...

    Narcissus

I was at a local lagoon late one afternoon and used a broken sapling stump as a makeshift tripod to "mobi-bin" this photo. This was done with some measure of difficulty by roughly lining up by hand the camera on my Samsung Note 3 mobile phone with one side of my Zen-Ray 8x43 ED3...
