    AOU-NACC Proposals 2024

The fact that "Tropical Eastern Pacific Booby" is a proposed common name gives me a strong sense of dread.

So where in the Pacific does one see one species, or the other, or both?

That's the nesting ranges, but of course boobies wander far at sea.

    AOU-NACC Proposals 2024

If you saw any in Florida they would be Northern. It's a Nearctic-Neotropical split.

Including me! Does anyone know what the range of the new Brown Booby taxa would be? Do the two overlap anywhere?

    AOU-NACC Proposals 2024

I'm not a fan of color-body-part type-of-bird because they're hard to keep track of, especially in the wider realm of Latin American birds. I think West Mexican Wren works well for that.

I would rather the split not pass than them keep Red-shouldered for the eastern taxa. That's a terrible idea.

    AOU-NACC Proposals 2024

If the Red-shouldered Hawk split goes through, what would the common names be? They'd better not keep Red-shouldered Hawk for the eastern taxon. I'd quite like something like Elegant Hawk in the west and Floodplain Hawk in the east.
