APC 42 Stabilised for Pelagic Trips and Sea Watching?

Bit concerned about this ! When I bought my Kite 12x42 I enquired why they ONLY recommend ordinary batteries NOT rechargeable (see, Premium (Alpha) vs Image stabilized ) Please read replys on batteries. KIte in Belgium says NO only used std batteries NOT rechargeable . Well, as mine are part...

    Too windy for scope?

One thing I have always done is attach a Dyneema climbing long sling (long loop) c8mm thick, with a small Karabiner to the tripod. with a "Hitch" tied too other end which slips around ones wrist. You can operate the scope / tripod as normal with the added protection of being able to react to a...

Why is buying and collecting binoculars so addictive.

PLEASE keep sending in your "collective" posts on this, it is so useful ! When my other half, she says "why have you all this birding stuff" (3 bins & 2 scopes) I can sit her down in front of these pages and say READ THESE .:sneaky:

Simple, go over the logo with a black Sharpie Pen, have done it on all my straps. dulls them down nice.

    Birding without a camera, forever?

I agree with you whole heartedly. Without a camera you have time to SLOW DOWN and actually see the birds- not see if you can capture their image and fire off machine-gun like upsetting fellow watchers in the process. You refrain from fishing for compliments on your achievements on social media...

    The Kowa Eyepiece Compatabiliy Thread

On topic but slight tangent; Can you do this Opticron zoom on TSN 663 using the 40925 adapter. And can you use the SDL v2 lens. Also, what is the accessory thread of the tsn663 and that of the TSN 823M, please if anybody knows. As my Baader zoom fits my TSN 823m and as the TSN 663 has a smaller...

    SFL30 comments and experiences

Top Tip ! try turning them inside out a couple of times, be gentle tho', The Zeiss rain guards are quite flexible . Sometime the walls can pinch at the rim and cause a vacuum making it harder to take off the eyepiece. I wish they would make them out of flexible silicon.

Looking for some pocket binos I'm curious about the curios.

Is that because of that incident in the 1960s when those "Birds" were attacking people. ;)

Spotting Scope Research: Swarovski, Zeiss and Leica

Try to blacken the view of your other eye by positioning the Scope Case eyepiece cover at right angles to the scope, if you have no Scope Case make a shield out of black neoprene or such like and attach it at at right angles instead. This blackened shield cuts off vision in that eye and stops...

Spotting Scope Research: Swarovski, Zeiss and Leica

As an answer to this "eye fatigue". When looking through a Spotting Scope you should ALWAYS keep BOTH eyes open; NOT shut the other eye. This comes with practice and prevent "eye fatigue" The brain compensates for this and you do not get that tremor of the other eye. Try it and keep trying it...

    12x50 Rubber Coating Breaking Up

Years ago Deet destroyed my eye glasses, the plastic frames melted, so what is it doing to your skin never mind contamination to binoculars or cameras. Use "Skin so soft".

Spotting Scope Research: Swarovski, Zeiss and Leica

Will, PLEASE Correct me if I am wrong but from what I have read you are quite new to this "birding" lark ! The lure of wanting what you read sometimes out ways the actual need itself. (green grass over the fence etc). Optics and birding are a compromise , never will you really find a "Holy...

EDG 7/8/10 x42 still in production?

Just a thought, 10x42 are a size of binocular that has always been at the back of my mind despite the ageing problems of shake and the remembrances of past owned bins' like Zeiss 10x40s BGAT. It is a size that just pushes that 8x32 when needed as a birder. I knew that if I got a pair it would be...

    Strap Adjustment on NL...

I never have and never will use this system. My ELs are pre- this. It looks to me that the cord has no heft to it and needs to be stiffened somehow. Maybe threading shrink tube over the cord, shrinking over a steaming kettle to stiffen up. It still will be supple enough to use, black and neat...
