See how we go with these.....

I was going to get a Fujinon FMTR 7x50 as I have started to do a bit of low light viewing, foxes and badgers and trying to find otters (failed so far) as the light fades, and also i've been doing a bit more stargazing (very casually)!! But being the opposite of a collector, I thought they would...

    Analysing Binoculars

The recent thread regarding a chinese ED 10x42 has led to some very technical input and opinions by some very knowledgeable folk on here. Whilst I appreciate and respect this level of knowledge, I sometimes feel it has a negative effect, and more highlights the problems, many of which are...

    Leica Bins

I recently went to Ace optics, great shop, very welcoming, and a nice time looking at optics. I went to look at some Zeiss Octarems 2nd hand, and although they were very good, not quite what I was looking for. Whilst there I took a look through some 2nd hand Fujinon 7x50's. Wow, big bins and...

    Fujinon FMTR SX(2)

So ... I thought these had a transmission of 95%, and I believe Fujinon do actually quote that. But I was told on here the other day this is not the case. Does anyone know what these achieve, the latest MKii version, and will they match the Habichts for light transmission. I have long been...

    8x20 Bag

I have just found a perfect bag for the Ultravid 8x20. Lowepro Tahoe CS20. A real snug fit, with a small pocket on the front for a lens cloth, and a belt loop on the back. Just thought I'd share and maybe helpful to someone.

    Glare on the Habicht 8x30

Can anyone help me with this. I recently played around with this binocular, twice actually, but both times bought something a bit more 'everyday'. But I couldn't find this reputed glare... I looked towards the suns' direction, away from it, into the shadows etc, but couldn't find anything bad of...

    Advice on Habicht please.

I am still contemplating buying a Habicht. It is only going to be used for low light work, evenings and dawn. My Leica 8x32 BN will still be my daily use bin, it's perfect. So... For twighlight viewing, and bearing in mind I am 55 yrs old, so pupils i guess max out at 5mm if i'm lucky... Is...

    BN 8x32's back

I've just had my BN's back from Leica today. I bought some 'as new' BN's recently after getting some older ones, and loving them. Whilst un-used, they were still nearly 18 years old, so I asked Leica to give them the once over, mainly to ensure waterproofness, as I will be using these beauties...

What's your favourite low light binocular, and why.

So what is your favourite...?? I've had the Zeiss FL8x56... awesome but ultimately too big, so wasn't used enough to justify the price. I would like the Habicht 7x42, but I know it has very small FOV, but as this would only be a low light glass, perhaps I could live with that. And they are...

    New Bins day

So I've just taken delivery of these M830R Steiners. I have been looking for a pair of bins mainly for paddleboarding. My Swaro CL8x25's were great as far as weight and size went, but awful for one handed use, with a paddle tucked under one arm, struggling to open and focus them!! Out on the...

    My current favourites

I'm using these at the moment. I always wanted a pair years ago, and couldn't afford it back then. I found these in a local shop, just refurbed by Leica, looked through them and bought them there and then, mainly on nostalgia, The view is so much better than I was expecting. It's not technically...

    Old Coatings

I've heard of older silver coatings like in the Leica BA's etc starting to deteriorate. Is it possible for a manufacturer to renew these coatings, or when they start to deteriorate, is that it done and finished??

    Old classics!!

As I mentioned in a post recently, I expressed an interest in the Leica BN series. It was the binocular I dreamt of owning back in the day, but could never afford. Well, today I met a guy who had a mint 8x42BN and he allowed me a quick view. They look and feel absolute quality, to my mind a...

    Old versus New

Just out of interest, how far have optics come along. So, for example, an old favourite of mine which I couldn't afford back in the day, the Leica Trinovid BA series, which just 'look' great anyway.... how does that now compare to a Conquest, or Kowa for example. The Leica's seem to go for about...

What's your favourite bins of all time..... and why?

So after nearly 40 odd years of optics, having had Leica's, Swaro's, Nikon SE's (should have kept them😖), Nikon Eii's, FL's, Conquests, Meostars, and some I've just forgotten about..... My very fave pair are..... Swarovski CL8x25's Every time I look through them, I am stunned by what they...

    Leica 8x20 Ultra V Swaro 8x25CL

Just out of interest, has anyone done a side by side between the epic Leica Ultravid 8x20's and the newer Swaro 8x25CL's. I have previously owned the 8x20's, sold them, missed the small format, and jumped back in, but with the Swaro's this time, but was unable at the time to do a direct...

    Meostars product info??

Can anyone please explain the difference in the Meostar range. There's the B1, B1.1, Meostar HD, Meostar HD Plus I'm a bit confused. Mine say B1 on the Box, HD on the side of the bins and focusser. They are the green ones with the arc of dots for grip on the barrels.

    Old Bino Story

Met an old boy at the hide yesterday. He had a very old, very worn pair of bins around his neck held by a piece of string!! I couldn't distinguish the make, and he couldn't remember the make😅.... but we got talking, and he said he had 'thought' about replacing them. I took one look through...

    Opticron

Just a quick shout out to Opticron for making and supplying first class accessories. Their lens covers are on my Swaro's and Meoptas. Great job, quality products(y)

My short and simple take on the Meopta Meostar 10x42HD

First off, I was not looking to buy a 10x mag, or indeed a Meopta. There is a shooting shop a mile from my house which I have never been to, as I'm not into shooting, but passing it once again the other week, I wondered what they had as far as optics were concerned. Well the answer is...

    Bino servicing

It appears that East Coast Binocular Repairs aren't doing any binocular service work unless it's Zeiss. Does anyone have any other recommendations.

    New Meopta Owner.

Hi all, I've just picked up a Meopta Meostar 10x42HD. Really nice handling bino. Very solid! Great optics, very impressed, but the objective caps are shockingly bad. Also there is no eyepiece covers in the box. Is there a well known fix, like opticron covers for example. I would like better lens...

    Fujinon HC 8x42

Just interested if anyone has an opinion on these 'never talked about' binoculars. I am a huge fan of Fuji's cameras AND lenses, so I was just interested to hear of any experiences with them??

    Habicht 8x30 question..

Hi, can anyone tell me if you can fit objective covers to the Habicht 8x30, as the tubes are very short. Do Swaro make some, or do the opticron ones fit. I used opticron covers on my CL8x25's and they are spot on. I just don't like not having protection on the objectives.
