    Gibraltar Raptor

Hi all, I just noticed that this photo from March 2017 got flagged on eBird. I had it labelled as Booted Eagle, is the ID incorrect?

    Uzbekistan Flycatcher

From April in Samarkand, in one of the parks near Registan. I ID'd this as Red-Breasted Flycatcher in the field but now it looks like it's not expected in that area... am I wrong on this ID? Sure looks like one to me...

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

Just as a follow-up; here is the original for the corvid photo, and I am struggling to match it with rook? I agree the beak still looks small, but the underwing pattern looks good for brown-necked raven? Probably just reaching here but thought it'd be worth another check :) From Khiva

    Last few passerines, Samarkand Uzbekistan

Any ideas on the others :) ?

    Last few passerines, Samarkand Uzbekistan

    1. Pied Wheatears? 2. Pied Wheatears? 3. Northern Wheatear? 4. Siberan Stonechat 5. Almost certainly just a rook or carrion crow or similar but I can't make heads or tails of this corvid 6. Pied Wheatear 7. Almost certainly not IDable but thought I'd give it a shot. On the road between Bukhara...

    Warblers - Samarkand, Uzbekistan

@KenM I'm not sure how much I trust eBird on Uzbek birds, but it reckons mountain chiff would be significantly out of range in Samarkand. @James Eaton I'm surprised by #2 being Lesser Whitethroat, it behaved very differently to bird #3 and, to me, looks quite different too. I have a couple...

    Warblers - Samarkand, Uzbekistan

A collection of warblers from Samarkand over the past few days, with my best guesses: 1. Chiffchaff? 2. Eastern Orphean? 3. Lesser Whitethroat (terrible photo I know, I do have a short video as well if that would help. It called several times, and it was a raspy whitethroat/Dartford-like...

    Raptors - Samarkand, Uzbekistan

Is it not an Eagle sp. ? Shape doesn't look right for a kite to my (not well-trained in Asian raptors) eyes.

    Raptors - Samarkand, Uzbekistan

I have some more photos of these if they would help. In particular I have a video of the bird in photo #6 that looks like it is lacking the Booted Eagle 'headlights'? Apologies for the quality, the conditions were not great: I also have one more photo of 8. if that would be helpful; its a...

    Raptors - Samarkand, Uzbekistan

A few raptors from Samarkand, Uzbekistan: 1 & 2. Lesser Kestrel? 3. Shikra? 4 & 5. Booted Eagle perhaps? Struggled to find a good match for this one. 6. Another booted eagle? 7. Another booted eagle? 8. Buzzard sp., really not sure which one. Common (Steppe) Buzzard?

    Western Uzbekistan Passerines

Hi all, I posted a couple of these a while back as BOC shots (photos 1 and 4) but wanted to share the originals, alongside some other birds I'd like ID confirmation for. All photos taken in Khiva or the surrounding desert. 1 & 2. Provisionally ID'd as chiffchaff. 3. Wheatear sp., I'm leaning...

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

As promised, here are some original photos of the buzzard sp. (both photos of the same bird in Tashkent). I ended up with quite a few warblers of note so will post the original chiffchaff photo alongside those

    Uzbekistan raptors & warbler

I think it's sometimes nice to get a second opinion while im still in the field, and most of these images seem perfectly IDable in this form, so I saw no problem in sharing these. But i will refrain from posting more until I am able to share the originals if that is the weight of opinion...

    Uzbekistan raptors & warbler

Some more grubby BOC shots im afraid, all from today in the kyzyl kum desert in karakalpakstan. 1. Eastern orphean warbler? 2. Montagus harrier? 3. Harrier sp? 4. Just a silhouette so i suspect unIDable, but shape is right for another harrier?

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

Rook is indeed VERY abundant here, the call is what threw me off of rook but i have heard the rooks here make all sorts of strange calls, i think rook sounds like a good id

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

I have quite a few photos of the bird i can post later. I did try to record the song but it was only songing very quietly and sparsely, and not at all when the other 2 appeared

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

I will upload the originals when possible... meanwhile i have another one to add to the list, with a better BOC photo! Looks like chiffchaff but 1: i dont know if they even have those here and 2: it is making a soft melodic subcall i have never heard chiffchaff make (and isnt making any of the...

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

I thought the bill seemed a bit longer than youd expect from a carrion crow? Agreed its not very thick, but i believe bn raven has quite a thin bill for a raven? The corvid did call but im not sure thats of much help; it didnt sound like classic carrion crow but not too far off; the magpies...

    Raptor and corvid, Uzbekistan

I think these are probably just familar species (common buzzard and carrion crow) but im not very familiar with the confusion species here (long legged buzzard, eastern buzzard, brown necked raven) to be sure. Taken yesterday and today in tashkent and khiva respectively

No takers on this :) ?

    Redpolls, West Sussex

A redpoll question again, this time at Warnham, West Sussex yesterday. This individual was by far the palest of a small group of ~4 birds, and I'm wondering if we might have another Mealy on our hands...

    Northampton Uk Redpoll

As promised, the original photo with no colour correction. Also we went back to the site a couple of days later and got a few more picture of the suspect birds (up to 2 mealies had been reported by others in the flock). Any thoughts on these?

    Northampton Uk Redpoll

I will get the original when able, but i can confirm the bird was very pale in real life, thats what got us onto it. There are plenty of much buffier redpolls here which are obvious lessers, but the photo bird was all on its own so couldnt make a direct comparison.

Taken just a few minutes ago, mealy redpoll or lesser?

    Gull, Buckinghamshire

At a pond in a residential area of Milton Keynes yesterday. A friend I was birding with reckoned this might be a Yellow-Legged candidate, but I'm less sure. You can't really tell from the photo as its quite overexposed, but the back colour was definitely a shade darker than any of the herring...
