Golden Eagle Pair Almeria Spain 27th May 2022

Really interesting. I think they are quite young in terms of eagles, and they may not breed successfully but fab to hear that they are still there, and getting on with things. Thanks for revisiting.

    Paphos this am any ideas?

Blunt-nosed Viper is no doubt a potent snake but I doubt there are that many fatalities per year in Cyprus. They are quite a different looking beast being an ambush predator.

    Kite ID

Absolutely - I wasn't suggesting this was a definitive position, just what's on ebird. Tbh I think this looks fine for Black kite. It is in a posture that emphasizes the tail fork and makes it look longer, and the poor quality makes interpreting the size and definition of the pale panel in the...

    Kite ID

No records of red kite on ebird for the Kiev region and only a single record away from the Western border. Obviously doesn't identify the bird in question but gives justification to the default.

Hybrid baikal teal ? at Top Hill Low , Yorkshire last weekend.

I couldnt see it yesterday and duck numbers are peaking due to freezing weather. It was about between Christmas and new year but I couldnt really add anything as it was a good distance out on D reservoir.

    North East London Redwing?

The picture just looks desaturated. Nothing abnormal there IMO.

Is this possibly a snowy owl ?

It is flying away, in a pose typical for hunting barn owl. Barn owls which often appear white with a slightly darker mantle in bright light, such as the OPs photo. The wings are too short for a gull and the tail is the wrong shape. Add to the fact it is gliding over a wall is typical hunting...

    Algarve Seawatching

I thought the face pattern is better for raz and the bill is indeterminate. Ground colour useless as no other birds as reference but the tail seems fairly long which on balance is a stronger feature IMO. Totally get your point though and probably one to leave in the gu/ra bin

1-3 are all Razorbills except the lead bird in 2 which is a Guillemot. Finer bill, paler mantle colour, skinnier appearance, longer back end. Pic 4 is 4 Puffins, 5 Razorbills and 2 Guillemots. 5 is 5 Razorbills and 3 Puffins. Pic 6 is three Puffins. 7&8 are Guillemots and 9 looks like a young...
