Costa's or Anna's Hummingbird? - Palm Springs, CA

Seen in Palm Spring, CA in early April. Looking back through my photos from a trip and want to make sure I get the ID right on this one. I think it's a female Costa's Hummingbird but want to make sure it's not an Anna's. Not sure how separable the females are, could always upload it as Calypte sp.

Unknown Vocalization in Eastern USA - Phoebe?

I was processing some recordings I made on a recent trip to the United States. I initially thought this recording was of an Eastern Phoebe, but it doesn't seem to match up well with that. Talking to a few people they suggested maybe a very vagrant Black Phoebe? For now, I've uploaded it as bird...

    Caprimulgiformes Limits

I didn't want to hijack this thread that is more focused on Nightjars. Someone asked me today if hummingbirds were in Apodiformes or Caprimulgiformes and I said Apodiformes...but then it was brought to my attention that Birds of the World classifies what was Apodiformes as being part of a...

    The 10% Club - Milestones

With eBird currently recognizing 11,017 species, my sighting of species number 1101 (Western Meadowlark) today puts me at having observed 10% of the birds of the world! I wanted to share and thought it would be fun to have a thread for milestones. Thinks like 500 in a country, 100 in a county...

The Coppery-headed Emerald (Microchera cupreiceps) and the Mangrove Hummingbird (Amazilia boucardi). A second vote (standard procedure) is scheduled for this coming Tuesday...

    Target List Generation

I wanted to share a bit of a project as well as provide some tips on how to replicate it for your area. This year I'm trying to focus more on audio recording and specifically where I live (Costa Rica) there are many underrepresented species. Programs like Merlin Sound ID require 100 - 150...
