Identification
21–29 cm (8¼-11½ in)
- Glossy black, or greyish-black overall plumage
- Stout medium red-orange bill
- White face markings at the cere
- White upper throat
- Black eyes
- Black or greyish-black legs
Distribution
Central amd South America:
Central Ameroca: found in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia and Brazil

- Caribbean eastern Panama and north-western Colombia (east to southern Córdoba)

- South East Panama to western Colombia (south to upper Río San Juan)

- North and central Colombia (Magdalena Valley south to northern Tolima)

- M. m. rikeri:
- Amazonian Brazil from Río Tapajós east to Piauí
- M. m. morphoeus:
- East Brazil (Bahia south to Rio de Janeiro)
Habitat
From canopy down to mid-levels of tall, humid terra firme forests and low hill country rain forest.
Behaviour
Diet
They eat a variety of insects, including crickets, beetles, stick insects and cicadas.
