- Reddish spot at base of the outer tail-feathers
Distribution
South America: found in south-eastern Colombia, through French Guiana, to eastern Ecuador, eastern Peru and Brazil, north of the Amazon.
Taxonomy
This is either a monotypic species[1] or one in which subspecies insulsus[2] has also been recognized depending on authority.
The closest relative of this species appears to be Yellow-faced Parrot.
Habitat
Forest and woodland near rivers below 400 m including the temporarily flooded Varzea.
Behaviour
Flight
Flight strong, high above canopy.
