- Oceanites pincoyae
Identification
Described in 2013 after first photographed in 2009 and formally discovered in 2011.
- Blackish-brown head, mantle, scapulars, back and upper rump with a silver-grey wash on nape, mantle, scapulars and back
- Bold white ulnar bars and extensive white panels to underwing
- White lower belly and vent
- White outer vanes to the outer two pairs of rectrices
Unlike other species in the genus Oceanites it has a distinctive juvenile plumage.
Distribution
Only known from the Chiloe region, Chile.
Has probably only a small range.
Taxonomy
A monotypic species.
Habitat
Sheltered seas in the Chiloe region.
Behaviour
Foraging methodes include "mouse-runs" and repeated diving.
